About second hand dogs…..It's normal for a dog to need to be retrained on the potty rules in every new house it goes to. My neighbor allowed her friend to visit with her two Greyhounds, (also potty trained), but not in my friend's house! (Big dogs, big poop.)
With a few days of proper training on the house rules and reward for success you will have a potty trained dog!

Keep the same feeding schedule and take the dog out after eating or drinking, playing, and napping. Look for potty signs – sniffing, circling, sudden change in behavior (like from playing to suddenly calm and sniffing around.)
When you aren't home, close the dog in a small, clear space – like a bathroom. Don't leave any food/water (that just gives the dog a chance to fill up.) The dog should always be in your sight until trusted – i prefer to use the "tether" method where you just tie the leash to a belt loop so the dog sticks by you.
The dog should be able to go a full night or up to eight hours (if needed) so your goal is to work for that.

Unless you want to use the rocket science method, in which case the first thing to do is go out and buy a big book about rockets. Then just be sure to keep the big book about rockets handy so that you can whack YOURSELF over the head with it when you forget to take the puppy outside when it needs to pee.
