How often do you take your dog out to potty?

My dog is newly potty trained, so not perfect yet but he is doing so great! I’m taking him outside about every 2-3 hours. He goes everytime, even if it’s just a little. I’m going back to work in a week and I’m not sure what to do now. He can’t stay outside, he is too little. So my question is to those who work and can’t be home with their dog all the time, how long can a dog wait? What do you do with your dog when you’re at work? THanks.
